first post, first baby.. to rent or own?

We are very excited to be having our first baby, even though circumstances weren't ideal (not married, not living together, religious parents, etc...) and as it is, we are currently looking to rent/own somewhere to live (and the sooner the better).  Has anyone (or is anyone) going through a similar situation, and what would you recommend?  Should we go forward with the first-time home purchasers process or just rent? I am 14 weeks along.
