How long did your baby stay in their clothes?

Just wondering how long your babies stayed in each size of clothing... I don't plan on buying any newborn clothes, just some 0-3 and 3-6 but then today my sister and my friend told me that their children only stayed in in 0-3 until 6 weeks and to just plan on buying lots of 3-6 and 6-9...

I'm confused, and any help would be appreciated.
