Gender Reveal Party

My husband and I are thinking about doing having a gender reveal party where we cut open a cake to find out at the same time as everyone what the baby's sex is.  We would only invite our immediately families and best friends (one couple).  I am torn on whether or not to have one.  Votes?

 As a side note, we are going to find out the sex prior to birth either way.  Either I would just find out at my ultrasound appointment or we would have the party.
