Ultrasound to re-check sex?

I have seen a lot of people on here saying that they are getting a second ultrasound to confirm the sex of the baby if it wasn't cooperating for your regularly scheduled a/s.  Yesterday at my 16 week appointment the doctor asked if we wanted to find out at our next appointment since we will have an ultrasound and I said yes.  She responded "Hopefully it cooperates" and I said "We'll if it doesn't do we get to have another ultrasound to try again?" and she said no.

Is this normal?  For those that are having a second ultrasound to try to find out was this offered or did you have to request it?  I am so bummed that I might only get one shot at this.
