Retinol in my skincare stuff!!

I have been using two Murad skincare products since before I was pregnant.  I brought them in to talk to my Dr about and she said they were fine even though only one of them had ingredients listed.  I didn't think twice about it after she gave me the ok.  Talked to my stepmom the other day who is an esthetician and she was immediately alarmed that I was using these products and told me to stop right away.  I looked up ingredients online and saw they both contain retinol!  Retinol is on my list of things not to take!!!  I'm trying not to freak out too much, bc obviously there isnt anything i can do about it now, but wtf.  Why was my doc so nonchalant?  Do you think I've done damage :-(?
