Is girl the preferred sex right now? (XP from July)

I have noticed lately among my IRL friend and also online that it seems that right now most mamas are hoping for a girl.  I find this so interesting, as I thought historically boys were the 'chosen' ones - but it seems as though that's not the case.  Interestingly also - when we adopted a year ago the agency told us that most people who had a gender request were requesting girls. 

Has anyone else noticed this?  Any ideas why it seems to have 'shifted'?  Or is it just my skewed circle?

(This isn't a judgment on anyone preferring any sex - I think it's normal to have a slight preference, even though we all know we don't get a say.)
