C-section vs. Vaginal Delivery

Why do some women choose to have a c-section over giving birth vaginally? I understand having a c-section in an emergency situation, but can you have one just because you want to? I heard from a woman that she planned hers and it was so easy. I asked my doctor about having a c-section and she looked at me in horror like that's the last thing to do. I'm 34 weeks and might want to plan a c-section. Am I wrong for wanting this? I hear it's easier on the baby. Thoughts???
