Can gas drops make it worse??

DS has been having a little trouble with gas at nighttime so I gave him some gas drops last night and about 20 minutes after that he started screaming bloody murder. I know that gas drops don't make gas disappear, only easier to pass, but it didn't seem like it was easier AT ALL. He has never cried like that - not even when he does have a little tummy trouble.

Was it the gas drops and has anyone else ever had this happen??
