Did anyone start bcp's before you got your first pp period?

I'm just wondering how long I need to use backup contraception.  I'm going to call my dr.'s office today, I just keep forgetting to call.  We've been using backup for 2 weeks now because I don't want to take any chances, but I don't know if it's necessary still.

Did anyone start the pill before you got your first postpartum period?  Did your doctor tell you how long to use backup?
