Do BH Lead to Labor?

I'm high risk for preterm labor and go to the dr once a week because of it. Everytime I go, the dr always asks if I'm having or have had any contractions. Well as of Wednesday I wasn't, but yesterday and today I think maybe I have had a few.

Here's how it goes, my whole tummy gets really tight and hard. But I don't have any pains at all. It doesn't last very long, maybe a minute or two. And I had maybe two or three yesterday (throughout the course of the entire day) and I think two so far today. But I don't even know that they really are contractions either. You'd think I would know how things go since this is my 2nd child...

I don't think I had BH with my first (if i did I didn't notice). Why do you get BH anyway? Is it a sign of preterm labor, or does it just happen for no reason? Also curious if they show up on the monitors at the dr office...
