Baby clothes, buy beforehand?

Hi Girls, I'm note sure how many outfits I should be buying before babies arrival. I've read various posts/articles and I'm confused. Should I wait until after my shower to see what I receive? And what sizes and how many of each should I purchase? I've been seeing a lot of clearance sales and debating on stocking up now. TIA!
