NPR: Nursery Decor Q for Mothers of Daughters

We are reusing DS's cherry stained wood furniture for DD's nursery. Ideally I would love to have white furniture, but painting it is not an option for us. Anyone else out there purchase dark wood furniture? If so, what are you doing to keep the room bright and airy? It was so handsome and masculine for my sons, but I want a more feminine look for DD. So far we've purchased white curtains to lighten the room, and I've just had her artwork framed in a white enamel frames that have a feminine design on them. I'm thinking about a white based bed skirt with a ribbon trim. What are you ladies doing?
