Is this a bad habit?

I have a baby boy who's going to be two months on the 18th...I'm kind of concerned about the amount of time he spends getting held by either my fiance or myself. He cries multiple times a day for the sole reason of someone picking him up and holding him. Is this normal? Or a bad habit? And if it is what can I do to make him more independent so that I can get things done around the house?
