maternity leave for teachers question

Did any teachers take more than 6 weeks off paid without having a c-section? My dr. will only write me a note to take 6 weeks and I have enough sick time for 8 weeks but my school will not let me use the days unless my dr. writes a note. My dr said they legally can only write a note for 6 yet my co-workers dr wrote her a note to take off 12 paid weeks before she even had the baby! I am SO mad! I want to take as much time as possible but can't afford 2 weeks unpaid....any thoughts?
