Babies who didn't like purees

So A is just not into purees.  I thought that he was getting there, but not so much.  He will eat tastes of table food, that is softened, etc.  (mashed potatoes, finely shredded cheese) and he manages them pretty well.  What did you do, just give tastes and then when they got teeth, start offering more?  I think that it is a texture thing, as I have tried Earth's Best and Plum Organics, and cereal...no go on really anything.
