When will you expose LO to water for fun?

We have an infant life jacket that my cousin used for her two or three month old off the boat over the summer but I am not sure if that is too young.  We are currently at a hotel with a pool, I let her kick her feet in it but would you allow your LO in with an infant jacket? I am not sure? Also when is boating with LO safe (obviously not until summer so she will be at least 7 months old.  Also what is the youngest it is safe to take them to swimming lessons because we are always around water and I want her to know what she is doing to be safe but I also know there is that whole silent drowning thing.
