nightmares or uncomfortable

My LO is 2 days shy of a month old. The last week or so this has been happening..

He will be sound asleep either in his swing or cradle. He will all of a sudden start making a very odd sounding cry, screaming and often move around. His eyes will still be closed. I will start to go to him, he will stop and continue on sleeping. He will often make a whimpering noise as well.

I am wondering if maybe he is having a nightmare? Not sure if a baby this young can even have nightmares. Or maybe he is having gas pain? Or trying to wake himself up..

It just is kinda nerve wracking and I am hoping he isn't uncomfortable or anything as I feel bad when it happens. Sometime he does it multiple times during his sleep/
