What about a used bassinet?

I got the okay for my sisters used car seat and stoller since it's not very old, is in good condition and I know the history. But what about my best friends bassinet? Her baby is 2.5 months old, and he will be fully grown out of it by May when my baby boy comes. She purchased it new, and I will make sure to wash all parts of it before using it. It has a mattress and a zipper cover thing, that you can wash. She said she never laid her son directly on the mattress, that she always laid blankets on top of it that he laid on. I was thinking id just buy a new mattress pad for it and a sheet, but she said it's a different size and that regular bassinet sheets don't fit on it... I feel like it should be okay if I washed it and put a blanket over it like she did.... But, what do you guys think?
