Quicker recovery if I go without epidural?

I have heard from other moms that if you go without the epidural it can really cut down on the time it takes to recover after the birth. I have been considering going without an epidural anyway, since it can slightly increase the chance of c-section, more expensive, etc. but this would be something to factor in as well.

This is my first pregnancy and I was wondering if you that have had experience with this (especially if you've done it both with and without an epidural!) think this is true? Does forgoing an epidural help you recover more quickly?
