Registry Question

I think it might be a little to early for me to start an accual registry, but I wanted to gather a list of items that I might want to put on the registry. One reason is that my SIL had a baby in May and I was offered to take alot of her stuff and want to know what items I will still need.

So, when will you (or have you) start(ed) your registry? How did you put a list together? Any tips I should know.
