Wanting to suck thumb = no sleep?

DD has been using a pacifier and enjoying it.  Over the past few days, she has "found" her hands and seems to want to suck on them but hasn't figured out exactly how to do it.  The last two nights have been progressively worse.  She wakes up and gets completely awake and frustrated trying to suck on her fingers.  She's spitting out the pacifier to try to use her fingers and is keeping us up most of the night because of it (she's in her own room but we can hear her fussing in frustration).  Any idea how long this might last?  We're exhausted.
