NBR: Cars? Help me out a little.

I had to junk my car in October and have been without one since. I can't afford a car note so I need to get a pretty good car that's a few thousand. I don't know how to car shop lol I got my old car as a 18th birthday gift so I didn't get to pick it out or anything.

My question is what do I look for in a car other than safety? What would be an ideal car for a 20 year old part time college student with 2U2? TIA
