new mom; bby sleeping schedule

My little boy is 9 days shy of being 2 months old...and aside from the night & day confusion, my son only sleeps on top of me.  Of course that is my fault, my mother and sister told me that newborns should sleep with their mom for a couple of weeks so they can get the bby/mother bond?  We're Mexican, that's my family's thoughts, though.  But now that he's growing and that I want him to use his crib it's not working..I hate to hear him cry when I lay him there. What can I do?

He barely sleeps on the bed, but he has to be right next to me, and (so cute) holding my index finger in his little hand.  I will start working soon and I want him to get used to his crib so he can take his naps during the day without a problem.

PLEASE HELP!
