Period or what?

Ok, so I think I started my period.  I say "think" because two weeks ago I had discharge with a little bit of color and thought I was starting, but then after two days it went away, it never got past the color pink.  Now today I totally ruined a cute pair of white undies, not a full on period per say, but just very dark discharge, as if it were the end of my period...  So, if this is all I get, do you think this means I can start the pill on Sunday?  Of course it's Friday and I would hate to call my Dr's after hour on-call line just to ask this silly question.  TIA
