Can gas drops cause spit up?

My mother in law insisted we give DS gas drops today because his stomach felt hard....he hasn't had any major spit up issues in 2 weeks. He spit up a lot after we gave him the drops. I trusted her opinion because she raised 3 kids, I'm a FTM, what do I know. But after thinking about it I wonder if there is a correlation or if this is just coincidence?
