Help! How to help LO"s awful painful gas?

He writhes in pain, his face contorted and getting red, then a few seconds later he (hopefully) passes gas.  We give him the gas drops during feedings and I try to help him by pushing his legs upwards and doing bicycle movements with them, which actually seems to help him pass the gas, but he still continues to have the problem.  I'm going to start tracking what I eat to see if I can figure out if its something in the BM, but wondering who else has this problem and what your pedi recommended or what you did?  Thanks!
