Waking up = Time to eat?

It seems as though no matter how long he's been asleep if my baby wakes up, he thinks it's time to eat.  This has been a problem when we need to move him or a loud noise or something wakes him. It could be as little as 2 hours since his last feeding but he thinks if he wakes up, it's time to eat and screams bloody murder until we feed him.  Is this OK? Do you think he's really hungry? Will he grow out of this? (formula fed)
