Apparently naps are for sissys

Good grief, this kid won't sleep during the day!  He will fall asleep on me and then bam-wake up the second I lay him down.  I've tried it all.  Swaddled, swing, bouncy seat, RnP, crib, carseat and Moby.  Nothing works but my arms and I cannot hold him all day due to having a part time job and 3 year old DD. 

I spend hours every day trying to get him down and have success 2 out of 10 times.  Anyone else have a permanent nap strike on their hands?  Any suggestions?  Someone tell me this is just a phase and he'll grow out of it.  Aren't newborns supposed to sleep a lot?!
