when can you go longer between feedings?

we are feeding our twins every 3hrs or sooner if they are hungry and allowed to have one 4hr lapse if the twins allow that is which rarely happens. This schedule is really tough, esp with two since if one is sleeping and I want to sleep I cant if the other is fussy. Just curious how long the feedings so close together go on for? I know we probably have a very long way to go but it would be so nice to have more time between them. TIA
