nasal congestion?

one of our twins is having some serious congestion, its awful esp when lying down. He started having this at 2wks old he'll be a month on dec 1. We have seen the doc to rule out a cold, doc said its normal newborn stuff. Until we knew better we were using the bulb to suction the mucous out, then we found out that would make it worse by causing swelling in the nose. I have tried saline drops a couple of times but I end up with it all over his face and hardly in the nose 

We even tried a towel under the sheet but its not really elevated enough to help. My inlaws said to have them sleep in the boppy's but I just don't feel thats a safe way to sleep.

Is your baby going through this also? what are you doing to make them more comfortable? Our LO is also spitting up a ton now, seems to be much more than it was before this congestion started. Does anyone know how long this lasts? Its awful to hear and not be able to help him out TIA
