Babysitting and Rates (City)

Hi. I'm 39 weeks but trying to plan ahead Just wondering if any of you live in a metropolitan area and what you would pay a sitter to take care of your newborn.

Hoping I can stay home with him 100% of the time but of course we have to plan for emergencies and things don't always happen how you like. Like if we had to attend something like a wedding and there was no childcare.

We're overly-protective I guess and I would only trust a couple people I know with my baby when he's under a year (some grandmothers I know and the church nursery worker). 

My friend told me it's acceptable to pay adults around $20/hour here. I was surprised. Does this seem unreasonable? $100 for five hours??? It's D.C. I just can't imagine leaving my baby with a teenager. For me, I'd only feel comfortable with adults until he's a little older.  Your thoughts?
