Who Should Claim The Kids

Okay I'm a mother of two beautiful daughters 4 years old and 7 months old. Their father and I are no longer together! I am living in a 1 bed room apartment with my mom until I can get on my feet. I work on call and my hours can range from 0 - 24 hours per pay period. Their father on the other hand has his own place, does a least 72hrs per pay period and only supplies me with diapers and wipes once a month which I replenish again any ways. He only keeps them 24hrs out the week and I have them all day everyday but he feels that he should claim one of them. When I feel as I should and I would still give him some money.
