recommend your mobile,white noise,anything machine

We are trying to get our 5 week old to start sleeping in the crib which at the moment is right next to our bed. He however has not wanted to sleep in it for 3 weeks, so he has been in bed with us. He is a great sleeper once he passes out but if he passes out on you and then you move him to his crib all hell breaks loose. If you do get him to actually stay asleep then an hour later he is wailing.

We do have a mobile but it was a waste of money as you must turn the thing to make it work and it only lasts a matter of 3 minutes.So we would like to get him something to soothe him to sleep. A mobile or machine, or teddy? any recommendations?
