traveling with a 3 and a half month old

So I am gonna head home for thanksgiving were only gonna be gone 3 day s but my hubby cant come so its me and my baby girl I havent taken her on an air plane yet I am going to keep her on my lap but I heard I can take the car seat and gate check it what is this travel bag that some of you have put it in and where do I get one for her car seat? also is there anything I need to do for her little ears since there probably going to be popping? any other advise would be great I am a little nervous ... tia
