Did you use rolled up blankets/towels in the crib for DC? How?

Just wondering if anyone has done this as a sleep positioner of sorts, I think I have seen it mentioned on here a few times. How did you do it? What size were they? Did you put them under the sheet or over? Were you worried about DC scooting down or suffocating or anything like that? With DS I had used an actual sleep positioner that I borrowed from a friend but that apparently is a big no no these days, right?
