For those who put rice cereal in bottles

My pedi told me to put a tablespoon of rice cereal in my DD's bottles to help with reflux. I have never done this before and want some advice.

I use playtex drop-ins with slow flow nipple and i warmed the formula and then added the cereal. I had to cut a slit in the nipple to get the formula to come out. Wanted to know if any of you do this a different way and if I should be cutting a slit or not or if there is a better way.
