Money question

I looked for a money question forum, but I couldn't find one!  I have a few questions and I'm wondering if anyone can help..

My husband and I make decent money, but once we pay bills and student loans (which are crazy), I feel like we don't have very much left to save.  When we were both student teaching, we maxed out a credit card (5,000) and have been trying to pay that back.  With Christmas coming up and us being pregnant, I feel like the combination doesn't work well.  I love to buy gifts for the whole family, but we are trying very hard to save and get some debt paid off before baby comes.  We aren't broke, but I guess I'm being selfish and feel like we should be putting whatever money we might be able to save towards helping out our debt, or saving for baby.

Has anyone been in this situation before?  Do you have a good idea as to a method to attack this? I have been looking online, but realized some of you might have been or are going through the same thing.
