Appointing a Legal Guardian

How did you and DH or S/O decide on a legal guardian for your child/children? I've been thinking a lot on it lately and I just can't seem to think up anyone I'd want to leave my children with should DH and I both die. DH wants to leave them with his sister, and I really and truly don't feel comfortable with that, because she's irresponsible enough with her own children and I don't want to add ours to the mix. What questions do you ask yourself when you decide on something like this and how do you get DH on board once you think you've figured out the right person/people?
