New and u/s ?'s

Hello Ladies, 

I am new here to the bump and to being pregnant! Our 1st baby is due June 4th, 2012. I see several posts discussing ultrasounds very early in the pregnancy, and I'm wondering if I need to have one done? I've had one visit to a midwife, and I was told I only get one u/s during my entire pregnancy, unless it is "medically necessary". Does this have something to do with my insurance (Anthem), or is one u/s standard in pregnancy? Any info would be helpful, thanks I'm excited to be part of this community, you all seem very supportive.
