When did your toddler start playing board games? What games do they play?

My mom gave DS candyland a few months back. We pull it out sometimes and look at the colors and find the pictures etc, but he seems no where near ready to "get it." 

(Side note - the graphics on the newer Candyland board are ugly! It's so busy, I really don't like it. I preferred my old school one!)
