Winter Coat Situation

The weather has dropped into the 60s which has me thinking about when it really starts to get chilly. I live in a walking city and it is pretty cold in November, December & January. My due date is at the end of January. Will I be able to get away with layering and leaving my winter coat open and using a big scarf? I heard we may be warmer than usual since we are pregnant? Not sure how much sense it makes to spend money on a new coat...
