I need to figure out how to do this politely, and I'm not sure there's a way in this scenario, but I'm up for suggestions!
I do marketing part time for a fast food restaurant. It's mostly teenagers that work there and I am the 2nd highest paid employee there (other than the owners). My boss & I were throwing a surprise party for someone the other day and I mentioned how maybe we shouldn't do it as a surprise-- I hate surprises. That's when she told me that she is planning a work baby shower for me.
While I love the gesture, I would feel AWFUL if anyone there bought me anything. We have the money to provide for this LO, and most people there need (and deserve) every penny they earn.
I shared my feelings with the other girl that is helping plan the shower, and she agreed with me, but also said that my boss will have a shower anyway.
Any suggestions? Maybe we can put a spin on it somehow and not make it about presents?
