How many people are on your shower guest list & another question!

My family is hosting a shower for me, which is super sweet.  So, I'm working on making a guest list and gathering addresses.  I'm hoping it ends up better than our wedding shower, in which NO ONE from my husbands family showed up except for my MIL (who was late).  That was a tad embarrassing/hurtful...

Anyway, to the point of my post, how many people will be invited to your baby shower?

Also, I would like to include a RSVP in the invitation, just so we have an idea of who will be there.  I don't want it to end up like last time, when we have all of this left over food and so many empty seats, because none of DH's family showed.  My mom thinks it is kind of silly to send a RSVP for a baby shower.  Opinions?
