Retractile Testicle

My almost 14 month old son has a retractile testicle which means one of his testicles has not decended. It's there but it's being really stubborn. So after a year, which is now, his urologist has suggested we go ahead and do surgery. Anyone have any experience with this? Any info on what to expect would be helpful. Thanks
