My older sister (who used to be a professional event/party planner) wants to throw me a shower, which is very kind of her. The bizarre bit is that she despises children and babies. Won't eat in restaurants with them, finds another seat on an airplane, resents their existence sort of hates children. The only thing worse in her mind is how otherwise normal women get mushy about babies and baby things.

I told her that she really really doesn't have to host a shower and explained that I wouldn't expect her to come to my shower, never mind host it, but she says she wants to because while she doesn't understand it she is thrilled for me, and that she is going to just pretend it is a shower for a new puppy:) It should be interesting, and might be awesome. I am guessing that pastels and diaper games are OUT and that beer will be on the menu.

It is a unique occasion when the appropriate hostess gift involves prescription narcotics, ear plugs, and beer.
