Question about baby shower...

Ok so I'm sitting at work and I get a text message from SO... "oh oh oh can we have the babyshower when we find out the sex of squirt". I told him of course we can, but how far away from the gender ultrasound did he want it. He says the sooner the better, us living in upstate NY we never know when the snow will fly and eventually stick, and he wants an outside shower.

So we talked and figured out that if we find out the gender on the 22nd of this month we can have the shower on the 10th of September. Two questions for you ladies... One, Is that still too early even for already having the gender ultrasound? And two, is that going to give people plenty of shopping time?
