Transition from nurse to sleep to Ferber

My lo is 10.5 months and I have been nursing her to sleep at bed time.  During the day my mom or DH do naps and they rock her, which she usually resists and screams through until she is asleep.  We are about to start Ferber this weekend but I am worried that the change will be too drastic for LO.  Any idea on how to transition from nursing to Ferber?
