This might be a good way to get your feet wet

Wazoodle is a canadian company that sells diaper making supplies and other fabrics.  They have a lot of services, and they sell these kits for making fitted diapers.  Everything is pre-cut, you just have to sew it together.  They have printed directions and a video on how to put it together.

I just ordered some smalls and more elastic.  I have a bunch of one size pockets that I made when I had my DD, but I wanted to do some small fitteds and covers as well.
