What would you do?

So, a super huge concert is coming to my area in October. I want to go but El Jeffe / bossman (note the sarcasm) is saying 'Not a chance'. This could really be a once in a lifetime event. At this point he's just saying that it could not be safe without giving any specifics.

Mind you, until I said otherwise, he was planning to go to the concert himself. We have a group of friends (about 5 couples) that are all planning to go.

Would you just buy the tickets and discuss it again at a later date? Or would you not buy the tickets and then pray that there are reasonable scalpers the week of the concert. To which, I seriously doubt the tickets will be any less than twice the face value by then.
