Weaning to a sippy cup?

DS will be one at the end of August. I am wanting to end bfing when he turns one and have him weaned to a sippy cup. I am thinking that I should begin weaning the first week in August. He currently nurses 4 times a day. When he wakes, after morning nap, after afternoon nap and before bed. How have you done it? Did you have to do any pumping?
